Discover Mathematics: Chapter 4
GoalFind ten more than a number from 1 to 9 by adding a full ten, and write the answer.
New words
ten more · the number we get when we add a full tenfull ten · a ten-frame with every square filledanswer · the number we find
Explanation

To find ten more than a number, start with a full ten-frame and put the number on a second frame. Ten more than 4 is 14: one full frame and 4 counters. Ten more than 5 is 15. Ten more than 9 is 19. The digit on the right does not change, and a 1 appears on the left. That 1 is the extra ten.
