Explanation
An alla is a song sung to put a child to sleep. Every people has its own lullabies, passed down from generation to generation. Mothers and grandmothers usually sing them. A lullaby is sung slowly, quietly (p) and in a gentle voice.
Worked examples
A march is fast and loud; a lullaby is slow and quiet.
Class activity
“Rock the doll to sleep”: children gently rock a doll or toy and softly hum the lullaby tune on “a-a-a”. Then the teacher plays a march and children “wake up” and march on the spot.
