Explanation
Noise instruments make sound effects in music such as rustling, knocking and squeaking. They include the tambourine, cymbals (likopchalar), castanets, maracas and the triangle. Shaking maracas makes a rustling sound. In a clapper (shaqildoq), small wooden boards knock together to make a rhythmic sound.
Worked examples
Maracas: put rice or buckwheat in a plastic container with a tight lid.
Class activity
“Noise orchestra”: with adult help, children make maracas (lids closed tightly; grains never go in the mouth). The teacher conducts: hand up — loud, hand down — quiet, closed fist — stop.
