Textbook pp. 40–41

New words
string · torbow · kamong‘ijjak (Uzbek bowed fiddle) · g‘ijjakviolin · skripka
Explanation
Bowed string instruments are played by drawing a bow across tight strings. The g‘ijjak is an Uzbek national instrument with four strings; folk tunes are played on it. The violin also has four strings and is also played with a bow. The g‘ijjak is held upright, while the violin rests on the shoulder.
Worked examples
A slow bow gives a long, soft sound; a quick bow gives a lively sound.
Class activity
“Air violin”: while music plays, children hold an imaginary violin on the shoulder and move an imaginary bow. Slow music — slow bowing; fast music — fast bowing.
