Time, price and amount
Discover Term 2: Axis 4, Chapter 2
GoalTell apart numbers that show a price, a time and an amount.
New words
amount · how many or how much there iskilogram (kg) · a way to say how heavy something is
Explanation
Some numbers tell the price. We see the word pounds next to them, like 3 pounds. Some numbers tell the time. They have two dots, like 3:00, and we see them on a clock. Some numbers tell an amount, such as 4 eggs or 2 kg of tomatoes. The word kg says how heavy something is. The words next to a number help us to know what it tells.
| number | what it tells |
|---|---|
| 3 pounds | price |
| 3:00 | time |
| 2 kg | how heavy |
| 4 eggs | how many |
Worked examples

Mariam’s class starts at 8:00. That is a time.
Class activity
Colour the numbers: with a grown-up, write four numbers on cards: a price, a time, a weight and a count (for example 5 pounds, 7:00, 3 kg, 6 eggs). Colour the price green, the time yellow and the others blue. Say what each one tells.
