Explanation
Long ago, people did every step by hand. It took a very long time. Today, machines help us. A tractor helps a farmer. A machine can pick cotton. Another machine spins the thread. A sewing machine sews the cloth quickly. A truck carries the clothes to the shops. Machines and tools are called technology. Technology helps us to live, to work and to play. A grown-up must always help us with machines.
Worked examples
Without a tractor, a farmer works slowly with small tools. With a tractor, the work is faster.
Salma uses a phone to call her grandmother in another city. The phone is technology.
A light bulb is technology too. It gives us light when it is dark.

Technology hunt: with a grown-up, find five machines or tools at home. Say what each one helps you do. Do not touch plugs or sockets, and ask before you use a machine. Which one do you think is the most useful?
