Light, sight and night eyes
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
List five light sources at home and five things that are not light sources.
Sources: lamp, TV screen, torch, ceiling light, phone screen. Not sources: book, chair, cup, bed, shoe.
2
Draw how you see your school bag in a lit room. Use arrows for the light.
Arrows go from the lamp to the bag and from the bag to the eye.
3
Watch your pupils change: look in a mirror in a bright room, then in a dim room. Write what you see.
The pupil is smaller in the bright room and bigger in the dim room.
4
Write two sentences explaining why a cat’s eyes shine in headlights.
A shiny layer behind the eye bounces light back out of the eye, so the eye seems to glow.
5
Ask someone at home: have they seen eyeshine on a road at night? Where?
Answers differ. The child records the story.
