Term 2 review: energy and shifting surfaces
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
Draw an energy chain from the Sun to a lamp that is switched on in your home. Label each form of energy.
Answers differ, for example: Sun (light) → plant (chemical) → fossil fuel → power plant → electrical → lamp (light).
2
Write two gains and two costs of building a dam.
Gains: electricity, stored water, fewer floods. Costs: land covered, fish routes blocked, less mud downstream (any two of each).
3
A tank holds 40 litres. The car drives 10 km for each litre. How far on a full tank?
40 × 10 = 400 km.
4
Describe how a canyon is formed, using the words river, erosion, layers and a very long time.
A river erodes rock and carries pieces away. Over a very long time it cuts a deep canyon, and layers of rock show in the walls.
5
Put the rock cycle steps in order: sediments are pressed into rock, rock weathers, magma cools, rock melts.
Magma cools (igneous rock), rock weathers, sediments are pressed into rock, rock melts (one possible order; a cycle has no fixed start).
