Heart, blood vessels and circulation circuits
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
Draw and label the four chambers and valves of the heart.
Right/left atrium, right/left ventricle; cuspid valves; semilunar valves; aorta, pulmonary artery.
2
Compare artery, vein and capillary in a table (wall, pressure, function).
Artery: thick, high pressure, away from heart. Vein: thin, low pressure, valves, to heart. Capillary: one layer, exchange.
3
Write the path of blood in the systemic circuit in order.
Left ventricle → aorta → arteries → capillaries → veins → venae cavae → right atrium.
4
Why does the heart not “tire” though it beats about 100 thousand times a day? (Consider relaxation time.)
Each cycle includes a rest phase (0.4 s) and the muscle is well supplied with blood.
5
Count your resting pulse 3 times and write the average (per minute).
Results vary by person; a healthy teenager’s is usually around 60–90.
