In a 2 L vessel 256 g of SO₂ (M = 64) is consumed in 1 min. What is the reaction rate in mol/(L·min)?

In a 5 L vessel 0.5 mol of O₂ is consumed in 1 min by 2H₂ + O₂ → 2H₂O. Find the rates of consumption of O₂ and H₂ (mol/(L·min)).
v(O₂) = 0.5/(5·1) = 0.1; v(H₂) = 2·0.1 = 0.2 mol/(L·min).

The H₂ consumption rate is 3 mol/(L·min). In 20 s the hydrogen mass decreases by 10 g (M = 2). What is the vessel volume in litres?

In 2ZnS(s) + 3O₂(g) → … (one-step), how many times does the rate rise if the pressure triples?

Why must a mass first be converted to moles in a rate problem?
Rate is measured in mol/(L·time), and a mass is not an amount in moles.
