Magnetic properties of substances
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
B₀ = 15 mT and μ = 80. What is B in mT?
1200
2
B = 0.9 T and B₀ = 3 mT. What is μ?
300
3
A ferromagnetic core raises the induction from 12 mT to 0.6 T. What is μ?
50
4
Compare the behaviour of a paramagnet and a ferromagnet in a magnetic field.
Both are attracted, but a paramagnet only very weakly (μ ≈ 1), while a ferromagnet strongly (μ ≫ 1) and can stay magnetised.
5
Why does a substance with μ < 1 weaken the field?
B = μ·B₀ < B₀: the induction inside is smaller than in vacuum.
