Explanation
People who do sport are called athletes. Winter sports happen on snow or ice: skiing, hockey, figure skating, ice skating. Summer sports happen on fields, beaches or in pools: football, basketball, swimming. Competitions help sport grow.

Hockey is a winter sport, on ice. Football is a summer sport, on a field.
Class activity
“Summer or winter?”: the teacher names a sport. If it is a summer sport, children make swimming arm movements; if winter, they pretend to ski on the spot.
