Term project: a greener classroom, from idea to talk
ICT Prep 1 Term 1, Lessons 1–10: Review
GoalPlan and show a small “greener classroom” project with the four stages.

Explanation
For the term project, a team plans “a greener classroom”. Start: the goal is “choose three ideas that make our classroom greener, and show which one the class likes most.” Plan: the questions are “Which ideas can we do?” and “Which one gets the most votes?” The sources are a class vote, one teacher, and a book from the school library, and we credit each. Roles: a leader, a collector, a maker and a checker. Do: the collector counts the votes, the maker builds a small table and a bar chart, and the team adds one sensor idea from Week 1. The talk uses three slide boxes. Evaluate: did we reach the goal, are the facts credited, was the work shared fairly, and what would we improve? All the numbers here are invented and nobody has to use a device: the whole plan can be on paper.

Worked examples
The class votes for three ideas. A paper recycling box gets 14 votes, lights off when leaving gets 9 and a plant corner gets 6. All votes: 14 + 9 + 6 = 29. The paper box has 5 more than the lights, because 14 − 9 = 5.
Add a sensor idea from Week 1: a light that turns off when the room is empty. The class asks the table a question: “Which idea has the most votes?” The answer is the paper box, with 14.
Slide
What it holds
1
goal and roles
2
chart and the winner
3
sensor idea and sources
The three slide boxes: Slide 1, the goal and the team roles. Slide 2, the chart and a sentence about the winner. Slide 3, the sensor idea and the sources we credit: “class vote, our teacher, school library book”.
Class activity
Run the project in a team of four on paper. Hold a quick vote on three ideas of your own with tally marks, make the table, and draw the bar chart with a ruler. Write one sensor idea, one question for the table and a credit line. Give the talk in one minute and evaluate with the four questions.
Practice
1
Votes: 14, 9 and 6. How many votes in all?
14 + 9 + 6 = 29.
2
How many more votes does the paper box have than the plant corner?
14 − 6 = 8 more.
3
Give one sensor idea that saves energy in a classroom.
For example: a light that turns off when the room is empty.
4
Name two things the “evaluate” stage asks.
For example: was the goal reached; are facts credited; was work shared fairly; what to improve.
