Interviews, synonyms and antonyms: risk and recover
An interview is a conversation with questions and answers. Read the interview on page 64 of your book, and then our own interview with a cycling coach. Look for the main idea, the reason for the choice, and what kind of text it is. After a minor injury we rest and ask a grown-up or a doctor, and we recover slowly. A synonym is a word with almost the same meaning: consequence and result, decision and choice. An antonym has the opposite meaning: wise and foolish, positive and negative, responsible and careless. Check the meaning before you choose. A risk is something that can cause harm, so we use rules to lower it.
| Word | Synonym | Antonym |
|---|---|---|
| consequence | result | — |
| decision | choice | — |
| wise | sensible | foolish |
| positive | good | negative |
| responsible | reliable | careless |
Interviewer: Coach Lamia, why do you always say, “Wear a helmet”?
Coach Lamia: Because a helmet is a small decision with a big impact. If you fall without one, you can get a bad injury.
Interviewer: Is cycling a risk, then?
Coach Lamia: Every sport has some risk. But if you wear a helmet and follow the rules, you will be much safer.
Interviewer: What do you say to children who forget?
Coach Lamia: I say, “Stop and go back.” A wise child never rides without a helmet.
