My digital day: an email with capital letters
A good email has five parts: a subject line, a greeting (Hi Jana,), a reason for writing, short clear sentences, and a closing with your name (Best wishes, Yasmin). For a digital-day email write what you always, usually, often, sometimes or never do. Teachers usually use the smartboard. I always check my messages after school. Join ideas with and, but and because: I like videos, but I never watch them at night because I need sleep. Capital letters: use one at the start of a sentence; for names of people and places (Yasmin, Cairo, Egypt, the Nile); for days, months and holidays (Saturday, March, Eid); for languages and nationalities (English, Arabic, Egyptian); and for the word I. We do not use a capital for seasons: summer, winter, spring, autumn. Write 60 to 80 words, or up to 100 if you can.
| Use a capital letter for | Example |
|---|---|
| the start of a sentence | We use the smartboard. |
| names of people and places | Yasmin lives in Alexandria. |
| days, months, holidays | On Friday in April, we visit Grandma. |
| languages and nationalities | She speaks Arabic and English. |
| the word I | Today I write an email. |
Hi Jana,
I am writing to tell you about my digital day. On Saturday I usually wake up at seven, and my phone reminds me to feed our cat. At school I always use the smartboard in English class. After lunch I sometimes search for facts about Egypt on a safe website. In the evening I write messages to my cousins in Alexandria. What do you do online? Write back soon!

Email planner. Fold a paper in five parts and write the five parts of an email, one in each part. Then write the full email of 60 to 80 words. Read it aloud and check every capital letter.
