All about me: present simple and present continuous
We use the present simple for facts and habits: I live in Cairo. She studies English. He goes to school by bus. Add s to the verb with he, she or it, and es or ies after o, ch, sh or a consonant plus y: goes, watches, studies. For questions and no we use do, does and don’t, doesn’t: I don’t drink tea. Does he play? We use the present continuous for what is happening now or these days: am, is or are with -ing. I’m learning to swim. She is reading. Spelling: run becomes running, make becomes making. A good paragraph about yourself has four parts: who I am, what I do every day, what I am doing these days, and someone I admire. Write 60 to 80 words, or up to 100 if you can.
| Part of my paragraph | Frame |
|---|---|
| Who I am | My name is … and I am … years old. I live in … |
| Every day (present simple) | Every morning I … . I like … because … |
| These days (present continuous) | These days I am learning … . |
| Someone I admire | I admire … because he or she … . |
My name is Reem and I am twelve years old. I live in Mansoura with my parents and my little brother. Every morning I get up at six and walk to school with my friend. I like science because it is interesting. These days I am learning to play the piano, and I practise every evening. I admire my aunt because she works hard and always helps people.
