Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
The data are apples 8, bananas 12 and grapes 5. Draw a bar graph with 1 square for each item. Which bar is the longest? How many items in all?
Bars of 8, 12 and 5 squares. The bananas bar is the longest. 8 + 12 + 5 = 25 items.
2
Seven ropes have these lengths in metres: 1/4, 1/2, 1/4, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, 1. Make a line plot. How many dots are above each mark?
Above 1/4: 3 dots; above 1/2: 2 dots; above 3/4: 1 dot; above 1: 1 dot. 3 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 7.
3
In the plot of the seven ropes, how many ropes are longer than 1/2 m? What is the total length of the 1/4 m ropes?
Longer than 1/2 m: 1 + 1 = 2 ropes. Three ropes of 1/4 m: 3 × 1/4 = 3/4 m.
