A visit to the art gallery
An art gallery is a place where people look at art. We can see photographs, paintings and statues. A photograph is made with a camera. A painting is made with paint and a brush. A statue is a shape we can walk around. Artists make statues from stone, wood, metal, clay, paper and cloth. In a gallery we walk slowly, speak quietly and never touch the art. A grown-up can look at the gallery’s website first to learn what is there. People who make art are artists: painters, photographers and sculptors. Musicians and actors are artists too. If I were an artist, what would I be?
Our art corner: with a grown-up, make a little gallery at home. Choose three pieces of art, such as a drawing, a photograph or a model made of safe materials. Write a name card for each one. Invite your family to visit: walk slowly, speak quietly and do not touch. Ask which piece they like and why.
