Choose wisely and save
Discover Term 2: Axis 3, Chapter 3
GoalChoose what to buy wisely, compare prices, and say why saving helps.
New words
save · to keep some money to use latercosts more · needs more pounds to buy
Explanation
We cannot buy everything we want. So we choose wisely. First we buy our needs, like a notebook for school. Then we look at prices. A ball that costs 4 pounds costs more than a ball that costs 3 pounds. We can also save. Saving means we put some money aside each week and do not spend it. After some weeks we have enough for something special. We keep savings safe in a box at home, and a grown-up knows where it is.
Worked examples
Seif wants a kite. It costs 4 pounds. He saves 1 pound each day for 4 days. Now he has 4 pounds.
Hana has 5 pounds. She needs a pencil case that costs 3 pounds. She buys it and keeps 2 pounds.
Two scarves: one costs 3 pounds and one costs 5 pounds. The 5-pound scarf costs more.
Class activity
Saving plan: with a grown-up, choose one small thing you would like to buy. Find its price. Make a chart with boxes, one for each day or week. Colour a box each time you put a coin aside. Count the coins at the end.
