Review: our environment and moving
Discover Term 1: Axes 1–2
GoalRemember living and non-living things, how things move, maps and road safety.
New words
living thing · it grows and needs food, water and airnon-living · it does not grow or need foodforce · a push or a pullmap · a drawing that shows where places are
Explanation
Living things grow and need food, water and air. A cactus and a camel are living. A rock and a key are non-living. Animals move in different ways: they walk, hop, swim or fly. A push or a pull can move a thing. On a map we use the words left, right and between. We look after our environment when we put litter in the bin and save water. On the road we stop at a red light and cross with a grown-up.
Worked examples
In the garden there is a bee, a rock and a flower. The bee and the flower are living. The rock is non-living.
Hana pulls the string of her kite. A pull brings the kite closer to her.
Jana sees a red light. She stops. She crosses when the light is green and her mother says it is safe.
Class activity
Environment walk. With your teacher, walk in the school yard. Find 3 living things and 3 non-living things. Find one way to look after the environment. Then draw a small map of the yard and use the words left and right.
