Must (kerak, majbur) majburiyat va qoidani bildiradi: «We must do our homework.» Mustn’t (= must not) taqiqni bildiradi: «We mustn’t run in the corridor.» Must dan keyin fe’l asosiy shaklda keladi va hech qachon -s olmaydi: He must go. Hamma shaxslar uchun shakl bir xil: I, you, he, we, they must. Maktab qoidalari: «Pupils must come on time. Pupils mustn’t use phones in the lesson.» Xavfli narsa: «We mustn’t play with matches!»
