Plan your site on paper
ICT Prep 2 Term 1, Unit 2, Lesson 4: pp. 74–78
GoalPlan a site on paper for an invented garden club.
New words
theme · the main idea of a site, such as gardening or robotshome page · the first page visitors seeplan sheet · a table that lists the type, theme, colours, pages and visitorsharmonious colours · two or three colours that look good together
Explanation
Before asking any tool, plan on paper. A plan sheet answers five questions. What type of site is it, such as a club site, a school-project site or a blog? What is its theme? Which two or three colours go well together, with enough contrast to read? Which pages does it need, for example a home page, an about page and a contact page? And who will visit: students, teachers, families? A clear plan makes your commands clear later, in Week 13. Look at the plan sheet for an invented Garden Club. Note that it holds no real names, address or photos. Nothing is published, and a teacher and parents must agree before any real site goes online.

Nour’s group fills in the plan sheet for Garden Club: a club site; theme growing plants at school; green, white and light brown; three pages; visitors are students, teachers and families. They check that green text on brown would have low contrast, so they choose dark green on white.
fill in the plan→ask: who will visit?→adjust the pages→ask for a teacher’s check
Hana tries her own plan sheet for a Robots Club site. She asks a classmate: “Who is the site for?” The classmate answers, “For students who want to join.” Hana adds this to the Visitors row and sees that the pages need an easy menu.
Class activity
Fill in your own plan sheet on paper for an invented club (not your real club): type, theme, colours, pages and visitors. Check that the colours have strong contrast and that there are no personal details. Show it to a grown-up.
