Explanation

Read the dialog on page 36 of your book (two friends talking about passwords, settings and updates). We practise advice with our own examples. To give advice we use should and shouldn’t: You should use a long password. You shouldn’t share it. After It’s important we use to + verb: It’s important to tell a trusted adult. With I believe we say what we think is right: I believe photos should be asked about first. Remember that a problem online can feel scary, but a calm answer helps most. Sometimes a stranger tries to hack an account, so we update our apps and use long passwords. In a role-play, one person has a problem and the other gives calm advice with two of these phrases.

PhrasePatternExample

Worked examples
Mina

Someone used our class game account and changed the name. I feel worried.

Tarek

I understand. It’s important to tell our teacher first.

Mina

Should we change the password?

Tarek

Yes, we should. A long password is safer. And it shouldn’t be shared with the whole class.

Mina

I believe we should also update the app.

Tarek

Good idea. Let’s ask the teacher to help.

Listen to a role-play about a shared game account.
Gap dialog. Box: account, update, scary, risk, I believe. A: Is it ___ when someone uses your ___ ? B: Yes, but it is a ___ to share the password. ___ you should ask a parent for help. And please ___ the app.
Answers to the gap dialog (in order): scary, account, risk, I believe, update.
Now you. Your friend says, “A stranger sent me a link.” Give advice with should and It’s important to.
Class activity

Advice cards. Write three problem cards: a stranger’s link, the same password everywhere, a photo shared without permission. Take turns to pick a card and give calm advice with should, It’s important to and I believe. The listener says if the advice is calm and clear.
