Inspiring success: words from a story chapter
Read Chapter Three of the serial story on pages 48–49 of your book. Before you read, predict: what do you think will happen? After you read, check your prediction. We learn the new words with our own sentences. Creativity is making original things or ideas, for example a new way to reuse old bottles. To display something is to show it so that people can see it: the art club displays its paintings in the hall. If you speak honestly, you tell the truth. When a person or a story inspires you, it makes you want to try and be better. Determination is the strong wish to keep going even when the work is hard. Good readers also think about values: Who was brave? Who was honest? What helped someone succeed: luck or hard work? Use the words around a new word to guess its meaning, and then check it in a dictionary.
| Word | Example | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| creativity | Mina makes a lamp from old jars. | new, original ideas |
| display | The class displays its models in the hall. | show for others to see |

| inspire | A great teacher can inspire you. | make you want to try |
| determination | Her determination helped her finish. | a strong wish to continue |
Creativity box. With a grown-up find three old things (a jar, a box, a bottle) and think of a new use for each. Draw your ideas, then display them at home and explain them honestly: which idea is the best and why?
