Plane shapes
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
Find three flat shapes at home, such as a plate, a window and a tile. Say each name and count its sides and vertices.
Any correct examples. For instance a tile: square, 4 sides, 4 vertices; a plate: circle, no sides.
2
Draw a triangle, a rectangle and a pentagon with a ruler. Write the number of sides and vertices under each.
Triangle 3 and 3, rectangle 4 and 4, pentagon 5 and 5.
3
Sort these shapes into two groups: ‘4 vertices’ and ‘not 4 vertices’.
4 vertices: B (square) and C (rhombus). Not 4 vertices: A (triangle) and D (hexagon).
4
Write a riddle for a hexagon with two clues. Ask someone at home to guess.
For example: I have 6 sides. I have 6 vertices. Who am I?
5
Draw a shape with 10 sides. Count the sides again to check.
A closed shape with exactly 10 straight sides and 10 vertices.
