The three states of matter
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
Give one example for each of the three states (solid, liquid, gas) and write their shape and volume properties.
For example: stone — has shape and volume; milk — has volume, no shape; air — neither.
2
Diffusion reached 30 mm in 10 hours. What is the speed in mm/hour?

3
Why does water take the shape of a tumbler when poured into it?
The attraction between liquid molecules is not enough to keep a shape; the molecules shift easily.
4
Press the plunger of a needle-free syringe filled with air and one filled with water. Explain the difference.
Air is compressed, water hardly is, because gas molecules are far apart.
5
Why do we call ice, water and steam different states of the same substance?
All three consist of the same molecules (H₂O).
