A balanced diet and a healthy heart
A balanced diet means we eat food from every group. Fruit and vegetables give vitamins. Bread and rice give energy. Fish, chicken, eggs and beans give protein. Milk and cheese help our bones. We eat only a little sugar and salt. Our heart is a muscle. It pumps blood round the body day and night. To keep our heart healthy we play and run every day, eat fruit and vegetables, drink water and sleep well. Ask a doctor if you have a question.
Who knows what a healthy plate looks like?
It has vegetables and fruit.
Yes! And bread or rice, and some fish or beans.
Can we eat sweets?
A little, but not every day. Play outside every day too.
Your heart is as big as your fist. It beats all day and all night, even when you sleep. When you run, your heart beats faster. To keep it healthy, play outside, walk to school and climb the stairs. Eat vegetables and fruit, and drink water. Sleep ten hours at night. Your heart works hard for you!
Healthy plate. The child draws a big plate and puts in food from the four groups. Next to it the child lists three things to do for a healthy heart. The grown-up says a food (sweets, fish, carrot) and the child says: A lot, A little, or Every day.
