Staying safe online
The internet is useful but we must be careful. Always ask a grown-up before you go online. Never tell a stranger your name, your address, your school or your phone number. A password is a secret. Only tell it to your mum or dad. Do not talk to people you do not know. If something looks strange or makes you feel worried, tell a grown-up at once. Use your own words for homework and do not copy a whole website. Take a break from the screen after a short time.
| Do | Do not |
|---|---|
| Ask a grown-up first. | Do not tell a stranger your address. |
| Keep your password secret. | Do not share photos with people you do not know. |
| Tell a grown-up if you are worried. | Do not open a message from a stranger. |
| Use your own words. | Do not copy a whole website. |
Mum, a person I do not know wrote to me.
Thank you for telling me. What did the person ask?
The person asked for my school and my address.
You did the right thing. We never give private facts to strangers.
I will not answer. I will always tell you.
Khaled wanted to find a game online. First he asked his dad. His dad sat next to him. A box came up and asked for his full name and his school. Khaled did not type them. He told his dad at once. His dad said, ‘Well done, Khaled! You kept your private facts safe.’
Safety poster. The child draws three rules on a big paper (Ask first. Keep your password secret. Tell a grown-up) and puts it near the computer. Role-play: the grown-up pretends to be a stranger who asks for a name. The child says: No, I ask my mum or dad.
