Explanation

We measure how long things are with a ruler. Small things are measured in millimetres (mm). Bigger things are measured in centimetres (cm). 10 millimetres make 1 centimetre. Put the zero of the ruler at one end of the thing. Read the number at the other end. We ask: How long is it? We answer: It is 6 centimetres long. A bar chart shows how many. The taller the bar, the bigger the number.
