Looking back at Term 1: my portfolio paragraph
A portfolio paragraph is a short text about your own learning. Look back over the six units: 1. Personal identity (my strengths and values; the present perfect). 2. Communication (calm talks; the third conditional). 3. Artificial intelligence (how it helps and its limits; the future passive). 4. Screen time (balance; modals and contrast words). 5. Design thinking (steps and instructions). 6. Stories (reported speech; the parts of a story). Choose the main points that mean the most to you and write about them in order, in a friendly voice. Use the present perfect for what you have learned, modals for your rules and will for your goals. Write 60 to 80 words; if you can, write up to 110. Finish with one goal for next term. Be honest and kind about yourself: you may write about a weakness only if you want to.
| Unit | What I could write | Useful language |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Identity | a strength and a value | I am … ; I have learned that … |
| 2 Communication | a habit for solving problems | I now talk to … quickly. |
| 3 AI | how it helps and its limits | AI is useful, but people must check it. |
| 4 Screen time | one rule for me | I mustn’t … ; I should … |
| 5 Design | an idea I liked | My best design idea was … |
| 6 Stories | a story and its moral | I like stories with a clear moral. |
This term I have learned a lot. I am curious and patient, and these strengths have helped me. When there is a misunderstanding, I now talk to the person quickly. I know that AI is useful, but people must check it. My screen rule is that I mustn’t use my phone after nine. My best design idea was a lost-and-found box. I also like stories with a clear moral, and I will read more next term.
Write your own portfolio paragraph: Looking back at Term 1. Use at least four of the six units, one present perfect sentence, one modal verb and one goal with will. Count your words (60 to 80). Read it to a grown-up, and ask which unit they would like to hear more about.
