Discover Mathematics P2: Term 1, Lessons 21–30
GoalPlay a card game: order five numbers and check each neighbour.
New words
neighbour · the number next to another numbercheck · to make sure the answer is rightcard · a small piece of paper with a number
Explanation
Here is a game. Write five numbers on five cards. Put the cards in order from least to greatest. Then check: compare each card with the card next to it. The left card must be less than the right card every time. If one pair is wrong, swap the cards and check again.
| 450 | 54 | 405 | 45 | 504 |
Worked examples
| 45 | 54 | 405 | 450 | 504 |
Check the neighbours: 405 and 450 have 4 hundreds. Tens: 0 is less than 5, so 405 < 450. Good.
