Tables, equations and graphs
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
Complete a table for y = 3x with x = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, then write the ordered pairs.
y = 3, 6, 9, 12, 15. Pairs: (1, 3), (2, 6), (3, 9), (4, 12), (5, 15).
2
Draw a graph for d = 30t with t = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4. Label both axes. Should you join the points?
Points (0, 0), (1, 30), (2, 60), (3, 90), (4, 120), time on the x-axis and distance on the y-axis, even scales. Yes, join them, because any time makes sense.
3
A pen costs 6 LE. Write the points for 1, 2, 3 and 4 pens. Should the points be joined?
(1, 6), (2, 12), (3, 18), (4, 24). No, because only whole pens are sold.
4
On a tickets graph, the point (3, 45) is plotted. What does it mean, and what does one ticket cost?
3 tickets cost 45 LE, so one ticket costs 45 ÷ 3 = 15 LE.
5
Find the equation for the points (1, 8), (2, 16), (3, 24) and the value of y when x = 10.
y = 8x. When x = 10, y = 80.
