The area formula and the coordinate plane
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
A rectangular field is 3 1/2 m wide and 4 m long. Find its area.
7/2 × 4 = 28/2 = 14 square metres.
2
A rectangular room has area 48 m² and is 8 m long. How wide is it? How much carpet at 20 LE per square metre?

3
Write the ordered pair of the point 7 across and 0 up. Where is it?
(7, 0). It is on the x-axis.
4
Plot (1, 5), (3, 5), (3, 3) and (1, 3). What shape is it? Give its perimeter.
A square with side 2. Perimeter 4 × 2 = 8 units.
5
Salma plots (2, 3) and Karim plots (3, 2). Are these the same point? Explain.
No. (2, 3) is 2 across and 3 up. (3, 2) is 3 across and 2 up. The order matters.
