Explanation

This lesson revisits Weeks 1 to 3 with new tasks. Information: data is raw facts, information is data with a meaning for a decision, and knowledge is what a person builds from information. Check a claim in more than one source before sharing it. Rights: personal data is any fact that can point to one person, copyright protects a creative work from the moment it is made, and a quotation needs a clear border and a source. Security: remember CIA. A fake message that asks you to log in is phishing, a program that locks files for money is ransomware, and a login with two different kinds of proof is two-factor. Two safe habits: do not click, and tell a trusted adult. In a Caesar shift every letter moves a fixed number of places: with a shift of 4, PLAN becomes TPER, and moving every letter back 4 places gives PLAN again. A real code would be far harder to break, so this is only a toy. Society: hunting and gathering, farming, industry and information are the stages, each with a main resource. Communication can be one-to-one, one-to-many or mass, and synchronous or asynchronous. In an e-mail, BCC hides the other receivers.

SituationTerm
A message says “log in here or lose your account”phishing
A program locks files and asks for moneyransomware
A password and a code sent to a phonetwo-factor
A worksheet copied 30 times, all identicalreproducibility
Worked examples
Sorting: each situation matches one term. Say why the last one is not about security.
A security case. A pupil gets a message that says the school account will close unless they type their password on a link. Calm steps: do not click, do not answer, show it to a teacher, and change the password if it was already typed.
LetterPLAN
+4 placesTPER
A toy Caesar shift of 4 on PLAN.
Class activity

On paper, write one new situation for each of five terms from Weeks 1 to 3 (for example persistence, phishing, copyright, asynchronous, BCC). Swap with a partner and check each other’s answers.

Practice
1
Shift the word TPER back by 4 places.
2
Which of C, I, A is harmed when a file is changed by mistake?
3
A phone call or a letter: which is synchronous?
4
Name the stage of society whose main resource is information.
